Faith Comes by Hearing

There’s an awesome verse in Romans 10:17 that says, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.”
This verse is the reason why I set out to memorize scripture in 2015. I did it because I know that my faith is increased and nourished when I hear God’s truth and apply it to my life! I wanted to share with you all, as we’re approaching the ½ way point of the year, the first 10 verses I’ve memorized.
I pray that as you read these scriptures that one of them jumps off the page at you! I hope that it applies to your current situation so much in your life right now. I hope that one of them is exactly what you needed to hear at this very moment.
If one of these verses stands out, and you find yourself thinking, “Wow, I really needed that!” write it down and keep it in your purse today. Read it over and over until it becomes so ingrained in your mind that you believe it wholeheartedly!

That’s what God’s word does. It catches our attention by our eyes, starts processing in our heads, and eventually makes it’s home as a truth in our hearts.

The reason I chose these 10 verses is because I specifically needed them at that time. Memorizing these truths have increased my faith immeasurably! When I get overwhelmed with stress, I say 1 John 4:18 out loud. When my mind gets too fixed on myself, I rehearse Psalm 86:12. When I feel inadequate, I whisper Philippians 2:13. These verses have lifted me up the past five months! This is the reason why I love God’s word. It has incredible life giving power!

1 John 4:18
“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”

Romans 15:13
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing. That you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 27:4
“One thing have I asked of the Lord that I will seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord, in His presence, all the days of my life. To behold and gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to meditate, consider, and inquire in His temple.”

Proverbs 18:10
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run to it and are safe.”

Isaiah 26:3
“You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”

Psalm 86:12
“I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify your name forevermore.”

Psalm 5:12
“For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor you will surround him as with a shield.”

Zephaniah 3:17
“The Lord your God in your midst, a Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing!”

Philippians 2:13
“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.”

Psalm 34:4
“I sought the Lord and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.”

I hope one of these 10 verses encourage you today. I pray you felt God speak to you as you read through this list!

// Lord, the power that is in your Word is beyond anything man can say. That is why we hold on to You and your truths. Remind us today God, that you say our future is blessed. No matter what today looks like we know your plans for us are beyond our wildest dreams.
