Pray. Then Go On Your Way!

I love memorizing Scripture. For those of you who are new to the Bible it can seem like an impossible task to memorize the Word of God. What I’ve come to realize is that is it extremely easy to do when the verse you’re memorizing has special meaning to you! Like your favorite song, you memorize the lyrics because you love the music and have a connection with it. Memorizing the Word is the same thing! The last two weeks I focused on memorizing 1 John 4:18. I chose that verse because it is close to my heart. It is my resolution with God to live a life that chooses faith over fear and allows God to cast out my anxiety with his perfect love.

This week I am memorizing Romans 15:13. This scripture reads, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” This verse touches a special place in my heart and that is why I have chosen it as my second verse to memorize this year.

Have you ever believed for God to answer a prayer so desperately that it almost was painful? I have! But through this verse, God has opened my eyes to see that this is not the way He wants me to live. God wants us to have joy and peace IN our believing! He doesn’t want us to have anxiety in our believing. He wants us to pray, believe He heard our prayer, and then have JOY and PEACE in our believing! He is a trustworthy God. So that means that our “God of Hope” can fill us with joy and peace in the waiting seasons of our life. He can flood us with joy and peace while we wait for our breakthrough– While we wait for Him to answer our prayers.

When I realized what this verse meant it gave me such a deep sense of freedom. I am free to pray to God and go on my way- living joyfully and peacefully while I believe in Him and His ability to answer my prayers. When I got saved many years ago, I believed that through the cross, Jesus died to pay for my sins. And I truly believe He did that for me and that I will spend eternity in Heaven with Him. I believed God for that- the most important thing in my entire life- surely I can believe Him to answer prayers and help me to have joy and peace while I wait for His answer!

// Thank you Lord for being my God of Hope. Thank you that your joy and peace lives inside me while I believe in you. Thank you for the Bible and all it teaches me. It truly is the Book of Life!
