How to Choose Faith Over Fear

On January 1st I joined an online bible study community that I’ve heard about for years. This community’s year long challenge is to memorize 24 bible verses in 2015. One of the many exciting things about this community is that I know I’m not alone in this journey- the online group has over 20,000 members!

For my first verse of the year I have chosen to memorize 1 John 4:18 from the NKJV bible. This verse says, “There is no fear in love but perfect love casts out fear because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” I chose this verse because I want it to be the theme of my entire year. To be bold, confident, and filled with God’s love! In other words, to be ruled by love and not by fear. I want to be filled with God’s love so much so that I have the strength and courage to push through my fears. When I meditate on this portion of scripture I am reminded that God loves me, He is for me, and Jesus has great plans for my life. So with this verse, I am choosing faith over fear and focusing on loving God and loving people. If you are struggling with overwhelming fear, I can completely relate. Let’s trust that the bible has this verse in it for a reason. God is ready for us to embrace His love and let Him cast out our fears.

// Lord, thank you for making me a woman who can push through her fears! Your perfect love is all I need. When the storms of today put gray clouds in my mind, remind me that you love me and that your love for me drives out my fears. Thank you that this verse proves that I have been made perfect in your love.
